Coppa Italia: Fiorentina Dominates Benevento, Monza Secures Victory

Fiorentina delivered a commanding performance, defeating Benevento 4-1 in the Coppa Italia. The match marked the debut of young talent Franco Mastantuono for Fiorentina. In another Coppa Italia fixture, Gustavo Varela's two goals were instrumental in Monza's decisive 3-0 victory over Avellino.

Fiorentina's Impressive Offensive Display

Fiorentina set the tone early, opening the scoring within the first minute. A high press proved effective, leading to Arthur Atta's precise pass into the box, which Albert Gudmundsson met with a header for the first goal.

The Benevento goalkeeper was unable to contain a powerful volley from Moise Kean, who skillfully directed a Joao Mario cross into the far corner of the net.

Despite a stunning fingertip save from David De Gea to deny a curling shot from Leonardo Sernicola, Fiorentina extended their lead. Radu Dragusin's glancing header from a corner found Luca Ranieri, who nodded the ball in from close range.

The fourth goal came from Cher Ndour. After controlling a pull-back from Marco Brescianini inside the box, Ndour executed a dummy before firing a left-footed shot into the net.

Benevento managed to pull one back, catching De Gea off guard with a low shot from Davide Lamesta that found the far corner.

Real Madrid prospect Mastantuono made his debut for Fiorentina on his 19th birthday, entering the game for the final half-hour alongside Christ Inao Oulai. Mastantuono came close to scoring with a curling effort from the edge of the box that narrowly missed the top corner.

Fiorentina will advance to face either Pisa or Empoli in the next round, an all-Tuscan derby.

Monza Advances with a Solid Performance

Monza also secured a comfortable 3-0 win against Avellino in their Coppa Italia encounter. They are set to play either Torino or Carrarese in the subsequent round.

New signing Gustavo Varela was the standout performer, scoring twice. His first goal came from a rebound of Patrick Cutrone's saved shot, and he added a second after receiving a generous pass from Cutrone, who had made a strong play.

Cutrone also contributed with a third assist of the evening, setting up Omari Forson for an angled drive. Cutrone himself had a goal disallowed for offside.
