Como President Mirwan Suwarso calls hosting Manchester United in the Champions League "unreal" for a club that was in the third division until 2021. He likens the experience to a gift.

The match against the English club is Como's third-ever fixture in the Champions League. They previously defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 at home and lost 3-2 away to Feyenoord, after conceding an early lead.

Suwarso spoke about the unusual circumstances for the club. "This situation is very strange for me, and it’s not right for a club like Como," he admitted. "This is something like a gift we are trying to do and take it one day at a time, but this is not where we thought we would ever be. It’s unreal."

Como's rise has been rapid. The team played in Serie B in the 2023/24 season and was in Serie C just a few years prior. The club had also faced bankruptcy three times in the preceding 15 years.

Indonesian businessman Suwarso and his family took over and rebuilt the club. Coach Cesc Fabregas also played a role in their resurgence.

Suwarso explained that the club's current position wasn't planned from the start. "This was not something we intended to do at the beginning, but it was an opportunity that presented itself. We feel a responsibility to the city that entrusted us, now we just have to trust that respect and do our best to make them proud."

For the match against Manchester United, Como faces several absences. Jesus Rodriguez suffered a significant training injury and will be out for approximately two months. Moise Kean, Assane Diao, and Trevoh Chalobah are also unavailable. As a result, Jesus Rodriguez has been removed from the UEFA squad list, with Maxence Caqueret taking his place.
