World Cup Earnings: Milan Leads Serie A, Man City Tops Global Charts
AC Milan emerged as the highest earner among Serie A clubs from the recent World Cup, also securing a spot within the top 10 globally. FIFA distributed approximately €215 million through its Club Benefits Programme to clubs whose players participated in the tournament, with Serie A clubs collectively receiving around €13 million. The financial reward for each club was determined by the number of players they sent to the World Cup and their respective teams' performance and progression in the competition.
There's a significant disparity in earnings between Serie A and other major leagues, with English clubs set to receive approximately €40 million and Spanish clubs earning €18 million. Milan's substantial contribution of nearly €2 million comes from its ten players who accumulated 456 days of participation. Notably, French internationals Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot each contributed €240,000 to Milan's earnings.
Milan's impressive financial return places them among the top 10 highest-earning clubs globally in this program, with Manchester City leading the overall standings with earnings around €4 million.
Following Milan in Serie A, Atalanta secured the second-highest earnings at €1.4 million. Despite having eight players at the tournament, only Charles De Ketelaere advanced beyond the Round of 16. Inter Milan rounds out the top three Serie A earners with €1.3 million, largely due to their captain Lautaro Martinez reaching the final. Martinez alone accounted for €240,000, the maximum amount a club can receive for a single player. Como also received €580,000, with contributions from Nico Paz, Martin Baturina, and Assane Diao.
Juventus is ranked fourth among Serie A clubs, with Bologna surprisingly securing a spot in the top five. Globally, Manchester City, Barcelona (€3.3 million), and Arsenal (€3.2 million) are among the highest earners outside of Serie A.
