Who is Laciné Megnan? PSG's Target - The Young Montpellier Prodigy

Paris Saint-Germain is actively pursuing Laciné Megnan, a highly promising 16-year-old attacker from Montpellier (Ligue 2). Born and developed in the Hérault region, Megnan is recognized as one of the most talented players of his generation. Montpellier HSC (MHSC) made him the youngest professional in their history.

Following the recent acquisition of Maghnes Akliouche from AS Monaco, PSG is strengthening its offensive line. The Parisian club is also reportedly interested in Mika Godts, an winger from Ajax, and Ferran Torres, a forward from FC Barcelona. These potential signings aim to compensate for the departures of Gonçalo Ramos to AC Milan and Lee Kang-in to Atlético de Madrid, and possibly Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, who are attracting interest from Liverpool.

However, PSG is also focusing on long-term prospects. As reported by RMC Sport, the club is currently attempting to recruit Laciné Megnan, a significant talent from Montpellier. Committed to signing young French players with high potential, PSG has identified the 16-year-old attacker as one of the most promising talents of his generation.

A True MHSC Product

An agreement has been reached with the player and his representatives, but MHSC has not yet agreed to his departure. Several offers from PSG have been rejected. Negotiations have stalled, but PSG remains determined to continue discussions, hoping to secure the 1.87m talent. The player prefers to be known as 'Laciné Megnan' following his parents' recent marriage.

Born on March 7, 2010, in Montpellier, where he was developed, Laciné Megnan is a local talent. He grew up dreaming of playing for MHSC, currently in Ligue 2. His father was a footballer near Bézier. Laciné began his football journey at Paulhan, near Pézenas, before joining MHSC at the age of 6. President Laurent Nicollin considers him a true "Pailladin" and hopes he will make club history.

Triple Age Group Promotion Last Season

Laciné Megnan quickly made a name for himself at the training center, where he is considered MHSC's crown jewel. Consistently performing above his age group, he was even promoted through three age categories last season, playing with the U19s instead of the U16s. Capable of playing centrally or on the wing, he truly shone with the U17s at just 14 years old, scoring 15 goals and providing 12 assists in 24 matches.

Megnan became a French international for the U15s and then the U16s, where he was appointed captain, before being moved up to the U17s. He has often worn the captain's armband since he began playing. In late May, he reached the Gambardella Cup final with Montpellier's U19s, being a key player in the team that lost 3-2 to PSG at the Stade de France. His impressive precocity led MHSC to offer him the youngest professional contract in their history on February 2, when he was 15 years, 10 months, and 26 days old. He signed with his formative club until 2028 and subsequently joined the senior training squad.

Zoumana Camara Relies on Him for Ligue 2

Zoumana Camara, Montpellier's coach, is currently counting on him for the ongoing Ligue 2 season. Laciné Megnan impressed during the summer pre-season, notably scoring his first professional goal from a penalty in a friendly against Clermont (1-0). He then made his official match debut at 16 years and 5 months old last Saturday against Dijon (1-1), contributing to Yaël Mouanga's opening goal.

Bertrand Reuzeau, the former director of Montpellier's training center (who also worked at PSG), watched Laciné Megnan develop. He describes him as a powerful, fast player, comfortable with his back to goal, possessing the ability to score and create goals. According to Reuzeau, the 16-year-old already has the attributes for top-level play. Monitored by major European clubs for the past two seasons, the Hérault prospect was also approached by OM (Marseille), who attempted to sign him a few months before his professional contract was finalized.
