Victor Valdepenas: 'I am incredibly happy to be at Fiorentina' following Real Madrid transfer
Fiorentina has officially secured the signing of defender Victor Valdepenas from Real Madrid. Reports indicate that Real Madrid will retain 50 percent of any future transfer fee. Valdepenas stated, "I am very happy to be here."
The transfer agreement was finalized some weeks ago. However, manager Jose Mourinho requested that Valdepenas remain with Real Madrid during pre-season training until other international players returned from their holidays.
The center-back, who will turn 20 in October, was a member of the Spain squad that emerged victorious in the European Under-19 Championship this summer.
According to various reports, Fiorentina paid €8 million for Valdepenas, with Real Madrid retaining a 50 percent sell-on clause for any subsequent transfer.
Valdepenas excited by the opportunity at Fiorentina
“I am very happy to be here; it's an incredible place. The training facilities are remarkable, and it's a beautiful city,” Valdepenas shared with the official club website.
“I am super happy to be here. On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited am I? I'd say 20! I haven't had the chance to explore the city thoroughly yet, but I've heard wonderful things, and I eagerly anticipate seeing it.”
What persuaded the young player to move to Fiorentina from Real Madrid?
“The experiences shared by the players I spoke with who had previously been here. It's a club with a rich history, which I recognize, despite my youth. The advice and insights from the players I consulted were instrumental in my decision to come here.
“I spoke with Borja Valero, who is certainly the person I knew most about from his time here in the past.”
Valdepenas confirmed his versatility, stating he can play as a left-back or a central defender as needed, though he prefers the left side.
“I am an aggressive defender, technically and tactically sound, and I possess good pace. I am truly excited and emotional to be here, and I can't wait to see all the fans at the stadium.”
