AS Monaco Appeals Exclusion to CNOSF

The Principality's club has taken its final legal recourse. Following its exclusion from the Betclic Elite by the French Basketball Federation's appeals chamber, which upheld the DNCCG's verdict, AS Monaco announced on Tuesday evening that it is appealing to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). The club aims to regain its place in the Betclic Elite through a conciliation procedure, seeking a review of its admission for the 2026-2027 season.

In a statement, ASM declared, "The club remains fully determined to explore all legal avenues provided by French sports law, while continuing its restructuring process in close collaboration with its institutional partners."

The club's lawyer, Me Xavier Le Cerf-Galle, expressed a glimmer of hope on Monday, August 3rd, stating in an interview with *Nice Matin* that AS Monaco Basketball is still working on a repayment plan that would satisfy both Monegasque and sporting authorities. Advanced discussions are underway, and the club is free of all debts to employees, social funds, the LNB, the FFBB, and its suppliers. This presents an opportunity for a buyer to take over a financially sound club, provided they can meet the financial guarantees requested by management control and the legitimate authorities of the Principality, whose support has been unwavering.

The lawyer further clarified that discussions are ongoing with Jamal Mashburn, and the club is also seeking other potential investors. He acknowledged the tight deadlines that have hampered legal and compliance operations in the US, Monaco, and France, noting that earlier discussions could have alleviated time constraints. He mentioned that Mr. Jamal Mashburn's non-commitment was for reasons he himself would not comment on, but stressed that the initial intention and financial capacity were genuine. The hurdles that prevented the buyout plan's finalization could have been resolved with a few more days, but this is not a guarantee. The LNB and FFBB require tangible and documented guarantees. The lawyer invited any interested parties to contact him to present their projects and provide proof of necessary financial guarantees.

AS Monaco Basket will only appeal to the CNOSF within the legal timeframe if the buyout plan is signed and the financing is documented. Otherwise, the sporting authorities will be informed, and an application to join NM1 will be filed.
